For this project, I am building a very small table, with a drawer, out of salvaged material, to use as a display stand. Yet, despite the small size, it still has all the same components and requires much the same techniques as when building a more regular-sized table.
Please see the video above for a detailed step-by-step build video. This page serves as a photo album, meant to accompany the above video.
I have a small collection of Lego projects, which I display on an old Barrister's Bookcase that I restored a year or two ago. The Lego Saturn V rocket kit does not fit inside it, so for a long time I displayed it horizontallon on top. Recently I decided to swap it to a vertical display orientation, beside the bookcase. I was displaying it on a scrap old project, but I decided to build a small stand specifically for the rocket.
For the design, I decided on a simple shaker-style table, but I scaled it way way down. The table was only going to be about 8 inches tall, with a 10x12 inch top. I also decided to incorporate a small drawer, to store the lego stands that go with the rocket.
Finally, I decided to build it entirely from found or salvaged materials. The body of the table is pine from a salvaged head and footboard from a bed, found on the side of the road a few months ago. The top is maple, from an old tabletop that was likewise salvaged from the side of the road on trash day a few years ago.
Below are some photos of the finished project, showing it with the Rocket. As well, there are the sketches, with dimensions, that I used to build the project. I drew up a fairly detailed sketch (save for any details about the drawer) to work out the overal dimensions and to give me a good start, but I deviated here and there from the plans. For instance my legs ended up 7/8" square and not the 3/4" square of the plans
