Magnetic Umbrella Stand

Years ago I made an umbrella stand to fit into the skinny space behind our mudroom door. I Thought it was a clever use of space and we still use it.

I also have an umbrella in my office at work, and it also lives in the skinny spot behind my office door. So I thought I would make another, though smaller, umbrella stand.

I just work there, I don't own the place, so I can't just screw something into the wall, so I came up with a cool idea for how I could use Magnets to mount the Umbrella Stand. Commercial door frames are usually steel, so with a couple of Rare Earth Magnets, I figured that I could have the stand just "snap" into place.

On top of all of that, I work in IT, so I have access to old/dead hard drives, so I took the fun and cheap way out of harvesting powerful -- and did I mention free? -- magnets from some 13 year old hard drives. This project uses so little wood that it is a perfect scrapwood project. Anyone who is familiar with my work will not be surprised to see me making this out of scrap Cherry.

Here are some before/after photos and after that you can find the sketches that I used to make the project, which contain all the dimensions of the pieces. For instructions on how to build it, I would refer you to the above video! Thanks!
