Add Leaves and Height to an Antique Table

We found this table on the side of the road in our neighbourhood on trash day... It was made with solid Quatersawn White Oak. After refinishing it, we made it our main dining table. There were only two problems.

First, there were no leaves. It was meant to have leaves, but none were there when we rescued it from the side of teh road. As it stands, it is a great size for 2-4 people, but that is all. So my first goal was to make some leaves to fit in the table.

Complicating that, was the fact that the table was made with absolutely gorgeous quatersawn white oak. The table top is covered with figure and ray-fleck. So I would have be sure to get matching lumber.

Second, the table is just too short. We like a table to be between 29-and-a-half inches and 30 inches tall. This table was around 28 inches tall. So I needed to find a way to add two inches of height.

Finally, all of this needed to fit in with the original look of the piece. I wanted to keep the table as original as possible.
